Specs

Origin encaustic cement tiles are produced in accordance with ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System and TS 213-1 EN 13748-1 Production Standard by Turkish Standards Institution. Slip rating is R-11 (average SRV is 40.)

The handmade ORIGIN Series encaustic cement tiles are produced by a method where a mixture of high quality cement, marble powder, natural stones granules, natural colour pigments and sand is pressed under high pressure.

The high pressure pressing method ensures that ORIGIN Series encaustic cement tiles have lower absorption and are much stronger than traditional cement tiles.

Thickness:
20x20cm Tiles: 16mm(+-1mm)
40x40cm Tiles: 32mm(+-2mm)

The colour pigments used are UV resistant.

The cement tiles must be set by means of a high quality adhesive.

Sealant(s) that does not form a film layer on the surface has to be applied.

Chemical polish or varnish that forms a film layer on the surface is not recommended.

Acidic cleaning agents are never used for cleaning or maintenance on the cement tiles.

ORIGIN cement tiles are durable to be used in high traffic areas such as hotels, restaurants, cafes and shopping malls as well as homes. These cement tiles are suitable for both floors and walls. They can be used indoors or outdoors as they have resistance to frost, as long as they are not subject to prolonged snow and frost, in geographical areas which are used to freezing conditions.

Origin series cement tiles; grinding is applied by a marble grinding machine. Sealant(s) which are non-permeable to water and for stain and do not create a film layer on the surface have to be applied after setting process of tiles. All our products are delivered as grinding and 1st coat permanent sealer applied at our factory without an extra cost (except 40 x 40 cm cement tiles.)

Installation

A competent tiler is a must.

Product and pattern code on packaging must be observed and appropriate setting for the product has to be applied.

The cement tiles must be checked before they are set. Complaints after the tiles have been set and cut are not accepted.

The surface must be level, dry, clean and free from dust and oil.

Inform the tiler to pay utmost attention to sizes, pattern and product codes. Please note that they are handmade products and are produced by using natural materials. So slight thickness, weight and colour tone differences are an inherent feature of this handmade cement tile product.

Therefore, in order to avoid stacking of different coloured tiles in different places, tiles taken from different boxes shall be shuffled.

The tiler must allow space for grouting appropriate (min 2 mm) for the product being used while setting the tiles.

Flexible adhesive is recommended for the areas subject to sudden changes in temperature. Waterproofing materials must be used for wet areas.

The surface tiles that will be set must be prepared prior to tile setting.

All materials must be checked before setting the tiles.

If applicable, the floor heating system must be turned off at least 12 hours prior to tile setting.

Rubber hammers or similar tools cannot be used for setting the tiles as these tools may cause hairline cracks in due course.

Whilst bonding the tiles either a delay in setting the tile on the adhesive or a cavity left under the tiles will result in tiles not being firmly set. These tiles will be subject to movement or hairline cracks (especially when grinding operation is in progress because of weight and vibration of the marble grinding machine.)

Grouting may only be applied after a waiting period, typically one day, whilst the tiles have been set. The waiting period depends on the surface, environmental conditions and the type of adhesive used.

For healthy process of setting and grouting; a waiting period is essential once the setting and grouting have been completed, otherwise movement of tiles or grout cracks may occur.

The grout must be cleaned with just water and sponge once it starts drying. Letting the grout harden on the surface should not be allowed.

Grout hardening on the surface attracts dirt which can only be cleaned with chemicals as per their instructions of use provided by the producer. Rinsing with water after cleaning with chemicals is essential. The cement tiles which their surface are sensitive to acidic chemicals may only be cleaned with water or non-acidic cleaning agents.

During the high pressure pressing process, the colours on the surface are blurred in consequence of thickness of colour layer. When grinding applied by marble grinding machine before or after setting the tiles then the pattern and colours are sharpened.

For Origin encaustic cement tiles; a marble grinding machine must be used for grinding. The grinding stones used in the machine must be suitable for the tiles used.

Further Information

All of our exported products are delivered as grinding and 1st coat permanent sealer applied at our factory without an extra cost (except 40 x 40 cm cement tiles.) Sealant(s) that does not form a film layer on the surface must be applied after grinding/polishing.

The cement tiles with incomplete grinding and sealing will be subject to gathering dirt and having stains.

Care & Maintenance

The cement tiles may need to be cleaned once a week, daily or as often as a few times a day depending on how frequently they are soiled.

The cement tiles need to be washed with water on a regular basis. When necessary soft cleaning detergents may also be used. Rinsing the dirty water on the tiles with clean water rids the dirt stains that may build on the washed tiles when they dry out.

Large areas may be cleaned by using light weight rotational machines with cylindrical brushes. The speed of the machine needs to be adjusted to ensure that detergent and water mixture cleans the tiles properly. Rinsing with clean water after machine cleaning is essential.

The stains that may form on the cement tiles may be cleaned by using a cleaning agent suitable for the type of the tiles used. It is recommended that only water and non-acidic detergents be used and the cleaning detergent should be tested on a small area before use on the entire surface.

Cleaning agents containing hydrofluoric acid cannot be used as hydrofluoric acid tends to damage the surface of the tiles.

Cleaning with abrasive equipment must be avoided at all cost as abrasive equipment will damage the surface of the tiles.

Cleaning agents that may form a film layer on the surface cannot be used.

The cement tiles may be cleaned by using lukewarm water, soft soap, or non-acidic detergents.

Rinsing a few times with clean water after cleaning is essential.

The cement tiles cannot be cleaned by using abrasive cleaning equipment.

Important

ORIGIN has a dedicated team of specialists; it is committed to continuous R&D and it has a testing laboratory. ORIGIN has also curing systems by steam, mould production unit etc. to control all the steps and processes. ORIGIN has standardized the sizes and thickness of the tiles as well as the thickness of the colour layer of these handmade tiles if compared with the other cement tile producers in the world.

Handmade cement tiles are subject to marks such as slight differences in colour and thickness, minute variations from the original pattern etc.

Tile setting and grinding faults will affect the cement tiles causing them to crack and, dislodge. The quality of the floor cover is dependent on the quality of the materials used, setting and maintenance of the tiles.
